inaugurazione AtlantikWall/fr_bunker’s village
Maggio 11, 2008Atlantikwall.fr/bunker’s village’” Travel diary
Febbraio 10, 2008The 23rd of March 1942, in a war directive, Adolph Hitler defines the fundamental principles that would have constituted the aspect of an immense work of military architecture, called Atlantikwall ( similar to Muraglia
Cinese or to Vallo di Adriano, accordino to Paul Virilio,)
6500 km of area interested from Capo Nord to the Pyrénnées.
6 European countries included (7 if we also include England and the Channel Islands), for the realisation of a system of defense, capillary and punctiform.
15 thousands of bodies of factories strategically displayed all along the Atlantic Cost.
13 million of meters cube of reinforced concrete.
334.000workers.
A unique example of prefabricated architecture.
Today, of this gigantic political boundary, more than architectonic, of this demarcation lign conceived with the idea of control over boundaries and in time, differently transformed, of these bodies of factories in reinforced
concrete, in most cases, nothing remains except traces, signs of a path.
Amelia Valletta, over two travels, goes over some pieces of this French cost, from Dieppe to the Normandie all the way to Saint Malò, to pursue further towards the Bretagne, Brest, the submarine bases of Lorient and Saint Nazaire, going all the way down along the occidental cost until the batteries of Soulac sur Mer, Saint Barbe and Saint Jean de Luz.
The idea is to complete a photographic relief of the contemporary landscape and of his microevidences, reconstituting as much as possible to do so, in an anonymous and documentary form, with a cold eye, and the explicit intention to inform, tell a story without narration, without scene setting.
